ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY
The hotel was built in 2009 and offers recreation and spa experiences in beautiful nature at Norefjell, and the visual identity is based on details from Norefjell’s nature and wildlife. The area consists of 244 rooms in the hotel, of which 121 are double rooms and 123 apartments, as well as 161 apartments in the village. Therefore, we have a great responsibility regarding environmental work and are committed to implementing appropriate measures and sustainability. We continuously work to prioritize environmental work and sustainability. The hotel is ISO certified: ISO14001.
BUS
We recommend all conference groups to use shared transportation. Therefore, we have negotiated a special offer on buses for our groups.
HEATING
Miljøvarme VSEB AS provides the hotel with renewable heat. Almost all the heat used for hot water and heating the facility comes from biofuels. As long as we do not extract more than nature produces, the supply of fuel will never run out. Thus, bioenergy is a very environmentally friendly and renewable energy source. In addition, the fuel used by us is so-called locally produced fuel. The trees are felled and processed into pellets in Hallingdal, only 10-12 kilometers from the hotel.
POWER & ENERGY
We focus on electricity saving throughout the hotel. We turn off lights and lower the heat in rooms and premises where there are no guests present, and the pool and hot tub in the spa are covered at night, etc.
During the spring of 2023, the hotel replaced much of its lighting with LEDs. We invest in technology that helps us reduce energy consumption as much as possible.
CHEMICALS
The hotel has replaced many chemicals with ozone water for cleaning and disinfection. This means that we save the environment from large amounts of environmentally harmful emissions and plastic waste. Ozone water is not only gentle on nature, it is also harmless to humans.
WATER PURIFICATION
Anolytech purifies the water, and we can also produce chemical-free water for cleaning, for example, tables in the restaurant, etc.
OZONE WATER
The hotel has replaced chemicals with ozone water for cleaning and disinfection, saving the environment from large amounts of environmentally harmful emissions and plastic waste. Ozone water has also provided our employees with a better working environment.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
Continuous efforts are made to improve procurement and choice of raw materials to ensure progress in our strategy to be a leading example in the industry as a sustainable kitchen.
We have a wide range of organic products and internally commit to using, among other things, Fairtrade-labeled products, and products that we can trace according to the Transparency Act. An example is that we always serve Fairtrade-labeled coffee.
In our food offerings and selections at the hotel, we have a clear strategy as a sustainable kitchen to offer good vegetarian alternatives suitable for all our guests. For example, in our snack menu, you can choose between vegetarian burgers, vegetable nuggets, and Poke bowls. Our staff participates in various local programs and through our suppliers for knowledge building on preparing new and innovative dishes with sustainability as a theme.
ORGANIC FOOD
Approximately 12 organic products on the breakfast buffet at the hotel.
FOOD WASTE
Smaller plates on the breakfast buffet and removed single-use packaging of toppings.
TEXTILES
Focus on sustainable textiles that will ensure the longest possible lifespan, for example, our spa slippers are cleaned after use (not single-use products).
WASTE MANAGEMENT
The hotel has its own food waste disposal unit in the kitchen to reduce waste, as well as sorting of plastic, cardboard, and food waste.
WE CARE & LONELY CHRISTMAS TREE
Every year, we collect Christmas gifts under the Strawberry campaign “Lonely Christmas Tree.” We encourage our guests to place gifts under the Christmas tree, which are then passed on to the Ringerike Crisis and Competence Center.
SUSTAINABILITY AND EDUCATION
Education for all has always been an integral part of the sustainable development agenda. At the hotel, we offer free Norwegian courses to all employees.
